Canoeing (?), Part 2

If you will note the question mark in the title, and are wondering why the heck it's there, we didn't do the canoeing part of the trip, since the river was flooded. Which has me confused, since Darcy and Lil Justin said it was fine. (There were two Justins there, the one in my class, and Lil Justin, just so you don't get the two confused.) Meh, with our luck, we probably would have jinxed it. Oh well.

We got the the Bleriot Ferry campground around 5-ish, and started setting up our tents. Stephanie had brought a tent big enough for 10 people, which was funny, since there were only 4 ladies on the trip!!! No crowding worries here!!! I think it was Levi, Cam, Stephen, and Zach who had set up a tarp shelter on a picnic table, they regreted it later on! But we'll get to that later.

Oh yeah, Cam sliced his thumb trying to get his knife open, it was deep enough that Mrs. C had to take him in for stitches.

Dinner was sloppy joes, with the buns having been
swimming (had to use something other than red!) in butter during frying. But it was still really good, new fav. recipie for sloppy joes! (No offence meant, Annacond). Pretty good, for being James's cooking. Darcy and J. Jr showed up in time to eat the leftovers.

Kolton showed up around 8, while we were playing archery golf. He brought his guitar, and I got a short lesson from him. (Man, he's almost as good as the guys from church!!! (almost)) Amanda thinks we were hitting on each other, but I think she was just jealous. Myself, I don't even like Kolton that much!

The rain and wind started around 9:30, and stink, it was cold!! (Tom, you cursed the trip, with your wanting rain! Dangit!) The wind was blowing all the rain into the guy's tarp, so they had to bunk with the other guys. About half of us crowded around the fire or on the bus, but either way, we were always pigging out on junk food. When we were in the bus, we were all singing praise/worship songs Really Loudly, the PCA Junior High way!!! I think the guys were making the bus bounce with all the jumping that was going on!!! It got annoying though, when Zach and Big Justin started pushing each other onto me and Amanda.

We all stayed up til about midnight to wait for Kolton's dad to pick him up, since he was going to be dirt-biking or something like that today. James offered to stay out all night with him, but we all wanted an excuse to stay up even later! THEN, after Kolton left, we ran back out to the tents in the rain, and after fastening screens, changing, and digging out extra blankies, we didn't sleep til 1! (Actually, James said that Matt, Zach, and Levi kept him up til 2. He also accused us ladies of talking, but I was mostly asleep, how could I be talking?!) The majority of us woke up at 7, which was semi-annoying, with everything in the tents still anywhere from semi-damp to drenched. I rediscovered why I never sleep on wet hair if I can help it, my 'do the next morning was... um.... interesting, to say the least!!!

While most of us were packing the tents, the guys (including Cam, who had returned from the hospital by now with 5 stitches in his thumb) all went out gopher hunting with the archery equipment that we had brought from the school, and came back with one dead gopher. Big Justin was annoyed that he couldn't shoot the little rabbit that had been hopping around since we got to the campsite. Mrs C was kinda grossed out by the gopher, but Mr Z was impressed! ( I think he was more impressed that they hadn't shot each other in the proccess!)

Around 12, we got to Horsethief Canyon, where we were told to find all the little Post-It notes that Mr Z had hidden. Micah L, Micah A and I gave up around the 6th note, with only 3 left. We had to climb all over the canyon, across the stream multiple times, landed on a couple of cacti (owie), landed on a lot more evergreen and rocks (more owie), and discovered the hard way that Badlands rock, after a rainstorm, has about as much grip in it as half-melted butter. The term Mr. Z used was "greasy", and he wasn't that far off!!! It was pure nastiness, and I think I wrecked my jeans, and came darn close to ruining my cool skater shoes, my sweater, and one of my knives. Oh well, I survived (but barely). (Ya know, the Micah's, as well as Big Justin's group, said they saw a hawk circling over me while I was climbing the last hill. Weird.) And there was more food after we found our way back to the bus, which was good.

And that, in brief, is an Outdoor Ed 'canoe' trip. Whoopie joy.

(Oh yeah, in case I forgot to mention... I'm going into Grade 10 next month! Yay!!!! Now I have exams for most of next week, but oh well.... Summer's coming soon!!!! And we got our yearbooks yesterday... very cool!!!!)

Second language?

You Should Learn Portuguese

Muito legal! For you, learning a language is all about the lifestyle that comes with it.
And Brazilian beaches, hotties, parties, and soccer matches are just your style.

Hmm, Portuguese... Kewl.

OK, let's make on thing straight here: If I hear ONE word about coincidences from ANY of you... well, ya get my point!!!

I know this has nothing to do with languages, but... did any of you see the England vs Paraguay game today? Go England Go!!!!!

Canoeing, part 1

Today in Outdoor Ed class (yes, I swear it's a very cursed class, *makes face*) we went down to Frog's Gap for canoeing practice. Evidentley I can't steer a canoe, and I'm not trusted in the front of the canoes with a paddle, so for the most part I just sat on the floor of the canoe in the middle. I made the very bad mistake of being in the same canoe as Trevor and Ridge, not doing that again!!! (We'll get to that later)

We took the Sabres bus (NOT the Buffalo hockey team, the school sports team) to Frog's Gap, but the emergency window on one side consantly opens if someone leans on it, I don't think Levi or Amanda will make that mistake again without hanging on for dear life to a seat!! Surprising no one's died yet from that thing.... come to think of it, it was giving us grief on the way to Willow Creek, that and the rear emergency door. Sheesh.

Anyways, we were supposed to be working on our J-strokes, but Sean, Zach and Stephen's canoe was within 30 feet of us, and I guess temptation was just too much for the guys. (As a note, I had absolutley nothing to do with this, I was just a helpless passenger in the canoe) They started moving our canoe faster, and faster, until we were going really fast, and rammed into their canoe. Now, that wouldn't have been so bad, if Jesse, Cam, and Levi hadn't had their canoe on the other side of the intended target. The 'peanut-butter' canoe (ya heard of PB sandwiches? Then ya know what I'm talking about. I think we were 'bread-slice 1') got sandwiched, and got flipped over!!! (Happy to say no one go hurt)

THEN Stephen jumped practically from the PB canoe onto Ridge's lap, Zach got a ride with Jesse until he jumped back in to get the then-sunken canoe out, and Sean climbed on right in front of me, leaving behind him a huge puddle. And since we still had another half-hour of class left, and the boys didn't trust me on a seat with a paddle, I had to sit in the puddle for another 30 minutes!!!!!!!

Next time, I am going to bring an extra pair of jeans, I had to wear my gym shorts for the rest of the day, AFTER riding back to school on a wet butt. Honestly, it looked as if I'd gone with a very full bladder!!! Waist downwards, I was totally soaked. AND the school has things against people wearing gym clothes during classes

THEN (I hear you all, your thinking "uh-oh") when we pulled up to try and park the canoe, the guy's steering went wonky, and we were perpendicular (wow. big word! lol) to the backsides of the other canoes. So, being the kindly gentleman that he is *snorts* Ridge jumped out onto another canoe, then Trevor jumped onto another canoe, and I got left in the floating puddle, going back out to the middle of the lake!!! Remember, the guys didn't trust me with a paddle, so I was stranded!

James ended up having to hand me a paddle so I could get back, and he and Trevor had to hold the boat for me to get out. Very embarrassing. I know I'm going to look back on this in 6 months and laugh til I pass out, but....

I'm not sure how it happened, but I think Levi fell out of his canoe and got absolutley soaked after taking a canoe out by himself with only one paddle, and getting knocked off by Jesse or Cam. Ya know, I think Justin is the only one who got out perfectly dry. (the wuss...)

And now I get to do this all over again on Saturday, unless the trip gets postponed from the weather forecast. Whoop-dee-do-dah.

Ya know, if this wasn't my injury of the week, it came close enough to being that!!! Like I said, Outdoor Ed is a cursed class!!!!

So yes Meadow, that's what the weird junior-high students were doing today. Welcome to the PCA Outdoor Ed class. :P
