After 2 hours of actual play, extra time, and watching a dramatic shoot-out (Gah, I hate those!!!), I am pleased to say THE WORLD CUP IS ITALY'S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YAAAAAAY!!!!!!!!! *ahem* It wasn't an easy win though, do the extra time and shoot-out tell ya anything?!
It started with one of the French players (or was he Italian? No, I think it was a French guy) getting injured in the first minute (how is that possible?) of the game, and he wasn't the only one who went off on account of injury. There were numerous leg injuries, hamstrings, shoulder injuries, and at least one head-blow, not to mention a ton of windings and a head-butt in the chest that recieved a red card for a French player. (Zidane, you twit...)
And they wonder why I don't play soccer... I think that one ball I took on the nose in Grade 2 had something to do with it! To this day I still can't head a ball at all! Anyways, back to the World Cup.
France scored within the first 5 minutes, then Italy got a point in the first 11. And it stayed like that all the way through the rest of the actual game time and the added 30 minutes, if you don't count the Italian goal that was called for an offside, dangit *grrr*
THEN we got into the shoot-out.
Have I mentioned I HATE shootouts?!?! This was the only 'good' one (by 'good' I mean that my favorite team won the game) that I had seen the entire World Cup month, Italy winning by a total score of 6-4. Yay!
Now I get to rub it in to Spoke and Paula! Hehe! Although, ya gotta agree, France was really good, they had to be to beat Brazil!
So Annacond and I didn't get to see Argentina and Brazil play, but we still got to watch a pretty good game, despite the fact it was played by lesser teams (no offense meant to any die-hard Italy or France fans)
Ironicaly, Terror #1 was playing his provincials this weekend, word comes from Dad that his team won both matches today. So now in a couple of weeks they go for the Alberta Cup, possibly playing my cousin's team. That I would like to watch!
Anyways...... GO ITALY!!!!! (until next world cup then.....
GO ENGLAND GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and if they go out, then
GO ARGENTINA!!!!!!!!!
and if they go out to, then
GO BRAZIL!!!!
All in all, quite happy with the way this World Cup turned out, yay!! Go Italy!!!!

Penalty kicks are a far better way to decide a game. The "Golden Goal" of the past made any competition result simply luck when players tired out. As far as the headbutt incident of Zedane...that was a tragic display of what football has become. He was in the running for the Golden Boot award. He may very well have got that trophey if he didn't display such childness. If FIFA give it to him now, I'll be even more discusted! ( and I quite like Zedane).
As far as today's result?
Italy's national team is comprised of cheats. They needn't be, they are all good enough to do rather well by their own merrit. Still, they won the match fairish and squarish.
Side note:
Rooney should be knocked down to a boy's club where he belongs and Christian Ronaldo should be demoted to waterboy...perhaps he could manage that without crying or falling over...
That was a fierce game, well-fought. Spoke and I looked at each other about 2/3's of the way through and I said, "This is really a battle, eh?"
And Spoke said, "yup".
ITALIA!!!
Thanks for cheering Italy on with me!
Stupid move on Zidane's part, what the devil was he thinking anyway? Very unprofessional. Makes the other antics of other players (ie: the whiners and cryers) look amateurish by comparison.
I think we should hit Firenze first on our dream trip, don't you think? Save Roma for last? Ideas?
ITALIA!!!
Shocking how immature some athletes can be, I know preschoolers who act more like adults than that!!!! Gimme a break! He SO f****in' deserved that red card. Was that really his last game?
And the Italy team is composed of cheats Spoke? I don't know about that...
But that was a really good tough game, had me on the edge of my seat a few times, esp. during the shoot-out.
Sounds good to me Annacond! Hey, maybe we could randomly show up in time for the next European World Cup... whatcha think?
ITALIA!!!!! (again, only until next W.C, then I'm back to being the school ENGLAND nut)
I disagree with the penalty kicks beging a better way to end a game. The sport is a TEAM sport, the outcome should (only in my opinion of course) be decided by the entire TEAM, not just that poor goal-tender. I hate shootouts in hockey too, for the exact same reason. I think the hockey games that last past midnight show which team really wants that win, they're all equally fatigued, it's still a relatively level playing field.
Can you imagine the fallout if the Stanley Cup was decided by shootouts? Don't even wanna think about it.
I was cheering for any team but, Italy, Brazil, and Portugal. I was sad when England went out, and I was very very VERY sad when Italy won...I dont know why...But I just dont like that team...
Stanley Cup, decided by shootouts?!?!?!?!?!?! Hope it never happens!
Meh, well it sucks to be you Meadow, Italy won the Cup, get used to it. I can understand the unhappiness when England went out, and I was really p***ed when Argentina and Brazil both went out, I think the refs were getting bribed by the 'wrong' teams. Hence the reason why I cheered for Italy, the only team I didn't hold a grudge against!.
Hasn't only Brazil won more World Cups than Italy?
